Volunteering is about making an impact at projects within communities that need vital support.

Volunteering is about making an impact at projects within communities that need vital support.

It’s a calling to go above and beyond your normal life and to add your effort into a wider cause. Becoming a cog in the wider machine drives the volunteering vehicle on and it shouldn’t be understated how much of an impact each volunteer can have.

Although the fees make a difference in financially sustaining each project, the energy, personality and drive of each volunteer can have a lasting effect on a local community.

Yet there are numerous communities all around the world that do rely on that support. These are communities that, with the right backing, can becoming thriving areas and this is exactly why RGV projects are based where they are. You’ll be supporting an existing network, an existing community and an existing project, that just needs that little extra help to take it to the next level.

There are several different topic areas that you can volunteer in, such as social/childcare, wildlife, environmental and sport. When it comes to what type of volunteering you wish to do, this is incredibly specific to each individual. Volunteering is a calling, a drive to do something you’re incredibly passionate about.

Those who love working with kids may want to go into childcare to make a difference in a less advantaged community, whereas someone who loves animals may wish to work in a rescue centre, where the aim is to make animals more comfortable after a tough life. This is intrinsic and is something that you have to decide yourself.

So if you know what your calling is and you’re wondering “where can I volunteer?”, have a look below at where you could volunteer with RGV in 2020.

South Africa has long been one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations and for good reason. Whether you’re interested in safaris, or stunning landscapes, South Africa has it all. Major events, such as the FIFA World Cup, has led to massive investment in all sorts of infrastructure, meaning the country is more accessible than ever.

Due to its location and size, South Africa allows for a wide range of projects. Wildlife enthusiasts will be right at home, with National Parks and game reserves playing home to some of the most majestic animals on the planet. Having an incredible coastline also means that not only do they have spectacular beaches and great surf, but an abundance of sea life, which are served by our Marine Animals and Penguin projects.

Thailand

Volunteer Projects in Thailand

For most who love travelling, Thailand will no doubt be on your bucket list, if you haven’t done it already.

The Land of Smiles has its nickname for a reason, with its locals happy to welcome people from all around the world. It’s a country that is lucky to have a huge array of wildlife, but unfortunately in the past, they have taken advantage of their wildlife to reach wider tourism crowds. As such, our wildlife conservation project and elephant conservation projects exist to ensure that these animals which have been rescued from Thailand’s darker tourism trade can live out their remaining days in a safe and comfortable environment away from the crowds.

Outside of wildlife, There are certain places that have less than some of the busier areas, and these are where our projects are based, such as our children’s kindergarten project.

Tanzania (Zanzibar)

Tanzania is another beautiful African country and one which homes the island of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is widely considered to have some of the world’s most idyllic beaches. White sands stretch along its coastline, where it meets the crystal clear ocean.

Because of this, the becomes a favourite of various different marine animals, in particular, sea turtles. However, it is not a straightforward process due to plastic pollution and overfishing, so our Sea Turtles project aims to provide a safe space for these little animals to develop, before being released back into the wild.

So, if you’re still wondering “where can I volunteer?’ in this coming year, you’ve got four incredible countries to choose from. If you’re still unsure exactly, give our team in Liverpool at Smaller Earth a call, who will happily talk you through each opportunity available to you.
